Technical Information

Concrete Preparation
Grind & Seal
Using a suitable concrete grinder, the substate should be prepared appropriately to remove any sheen or laitance from the surface. It is recommended to use 30grit diamond tooling to thoroughly prepare the floor and to achieve the desired stone exposure and finish. This is followed by filling of any cracks, crevices and holes and repeat the 30grit process as necessary.  60 or 80 grit diamond tooling should then be used to remove any swirls and scratches from the surface. The surface should then be vacuumed thoroughly to remove any loose dust particles before sealing.

Exposed Aggregate
Prepare the concrete using a high-pressure cleaner to prepare the surface. If needed, use a diluted surfactant to de-grease the surface to remove any grease and oil. ensure all degreasing agent is removed and allow the surface to dry completely before sealing.

Smooth Concrete (troweled, burnished, non-porous)
Acid etch concrete with hydrochloric acid (HCL). Dilution rate: 1L HCL to 20L water. (Always add the water first and the acid second to avoid potential splashing of the acid.). Smoother concrete will require a higher concentration of HCL. Apply evenly over the concrete with a plastic watering bucket. Pressure wash with water immediately after (before the acid dries) ensuring to remove any excess acid. Allow the surface to dry completely before sealing.

Applying Concrete Sealer
First coat application:
For non-porous surfaces dilute first coat of General Purpose Concrete Sealer  with Peninsula Products Thinners at a 50:50 ratio. This will provide better substrate wetting and improved bonding. b) Use a 4-8mm mohair pile nap roller for application.

Second & third coat application:
coat between 8-18 hours after the previous coat. b) This will depend on temperature & humidity conditions. If re-coat window has been missed the first coat will have to be abraded, loose particles removed, and solvent wiped before the second coat can be applied. Peninsula Products Non-Skid Slip Resistant additive can be added to the final coat. Please refer to Peninsula Products Non-Skid datasheet.
